Side-Hustle Series: Simple Satch {and Giveaway}

August 6, 2020 by Julie 23 Comments

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe and join fellow working moms. Thanks for visiting!

I am enjoying interviewing professionals and mom bosses about their line of work or their side hustles. This is a sponsored post.

Today I am sharing an interview with the founders of Simple Satch. The lovely ladies behind Simple Satch sent me a Starter Kit of my own, which I am loving getting to try and share with you. Keep reading for a giveaway!

What is Simple Satch?

Three female entrepreneurs – Chaiah Delouya, a fashion designer and mom of three, Susie Levitt, a product expert and Corinne Daniels, a registered nurse – are reimagining the personal hygiene industry and empowering moms everywhere to embrace life in the new normal with confidence through their stylish hands-free infection prevention kit, Simple Satch.

simple satch stylish safety kit

Like many people, life in quarantine has presented challenges, but three inspirational small businesswomen from NYC didn’t let the pandemic stop them from making safety stylish and creating the new go-to, fashionable hygienic accessory that features a patent-pending design.

Retailing for $50 on simplesatch.com, the ‘Simple Starter Kit’ includes the belt bag with the patent-pending hidden, yet convenient, dispenser, in addition to a pack of antibacterial wipes, alcohol-based hand sanitizer, and a non-medical grade face mask and filter. The Simple Satch belt bag is also sold separately for $38, as well as antibacterial sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer. Giving back and positively impacting those in need is part of the fabric of this company. 10 percent of sales on all Simple Satch products go directly to a customer’s charity of choice.

Check out the ‘Simple Stach’ small business owner’s inspiring stories below, or visit Simple Satch to learn more and purchase products.

Tell us about yourselves?

Corinne: Susie and I met back in 2017 through our better halves! Our husbands went to college together and when we met on a couple’s date, we instantly connected over giving back to those in need and the importance of supporting other women. Chaiah and Susie also shared a passion for philanthropy and worked together in the fashion industry years ago. Little did we know, we would be combining Chaiah’s design skills, my nursing background, and Susie’s product expertise to launch Simple Satch – a stylish safety kit that gives back and empowers women to tackle life in the new normal with confidence.

Tell us about your exciting new product Simple Satch?

Susie: We wanted to create a product that women could use every day no matter if you are on the frontlines, in the boardroom or a parent raising kids. Designed to stash proper hygienic essentials and personal items, the sleek Simple Satch belt bag is the ultimate hands-free infection prevention kit. We chose black for the signature Simple Satch bag color to represent strength and resiliency – qualities all women have. Black is also a powerful neutral that can be paired with anything, especially our Simple Satch masks that are offered in blush, grey black, camo, tie-dye, turquoise, bandana, and more. Our color palate keeps expanded, so customers are encouraged to check back frequently for exciting new products!

What makes it perfect for pandemic living?

Susie: When designing Simple Satch safe and hands-free hygiene was our top priority. We decided to provide access to sanitizing wipes from the outside of our bags to minimize contact with the interior compartment. Our patent-pending design has a rubber port which wipes can be pulled through making wiping and swiping a breeze. The bags also have a unique zipper pocket to securely hold antibacterial wipes, helping keep them fresh. The hands-free design makes good hygiene effortless, all while helping resist contamination to the interior compartment and personal belongings. Our products are made to help women embrace life beyond the pandemic and in the new normal. Our packaging provides customers a unique unboxing experience and features inspirational quotes such as “you got this in the bag!” We believe Simple Satch is the priceless accessory for moms.

What inspired you to launch this product?

Corinne: Two years ago, Susie and I came up with the concept of creating bags with the purpose of cleanliness and hygiene. We realized the “gal on-the-go” needed a stylish bag to stash her personal items and proper hygienic essentials. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we knew we needed to take this idea and turn it into a reality. We quickly developed Simple Satch – the ultimate hands-free infection control kit – that encompasses a belt bag, hand sanitizer, antibacterial wipes, a non-medical grade face mask and filters.

Share with us your journey to launching this startup.

Susie: Once we decided to bring our idea to life, I immediately called Chaiah and we started collaborating on designs. With safe and hands-free hygiene our top priority, we had nearly 10 prototypes before landing on the final product. We also designed our face masks with adjustable earloops which provide added comfort and can be loosened or tightened. Positively impacting our community is part of the fabric of Simple Satch. One of my favorite memories in the lead up to launching the company was finalizing our charitable partners. It was so rewarding to immediately make a difference when we launched in mid-June.

What are some of your favorite things about running your business?

Susie: Physical and mental wellness is a core part of our lives. We love hot yoga, exercise classes and meditation. As small business owners, one of our favorite things is uniting our passions and products with purpose-driven people who are enriching our communities nationwide to create events to positively help those in need. Every week, Simple Satch features #thegirlbehindthemask social media campaign on our Simple Satch Instagram channel. The initiative provides a forum to share personal stories, help raise awareness for impactful causes, and spotlight the people that are driving positive change in our world. We recently featured Lori Ann, a registered nurse, and dancer, who hosted a virtual yoga class for us benefiting amfAR.

What were some challenges you ran into when starting your business?

Chaiah: Launching a company during a pandemic has been one of the greatest learning experiences in our lives. The challenging circumstances helped break down some barriers that might have normally existed in the prototype process. As business owners, we have made a concerted effort to stay connected all while staying apart by doing little things such as inspirational text chains in the morning, virtual meetings, and setting positive intentions together.

How does Simple Satch help reduce the mental load of motherhood?

Chaiah: As a mom, my family’s health and wellness is the No. 1 priority. With three kids of my own, ages 11, 16, and 23, we are always on the move. My Simple Satch is my go-to bag with all my hygienic essentials – mask, wipes, hand sanitizer. The cross-body or belt bag design keeps my hands free to help my kids. My favorite feature is the exterior wipes. We must be extra cautious these days leaving the house. It’s my confidence bag that keeps me and my family safe and sanitized (and me sane).

I understand your business helps give back to the community. Tell us more about that:

Corinne: Simple Satch is dedicated to positively impacting those in need and enhancing the lives of those in need. Personalizing the donation aspect of a customer’s purchase experience is a priority for Simple Satch. 10 percent of all products sold at simplesatch.com go directly to charity and we want our customers to confidentially know what their gift of gratitude is supporting. By teaming with Givz, a company that simplifies the giving experience, customers have a turnkey option at the end of checkout to donate 10 percent of their purchase to more than 1.6 million charities, including The Child Mind Institute, City Harvest and amFAR.

Any advice you want to give fellow moms?

Chaiah: The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in challenging times for all of us, yet as moms, we need to refuse to let it stop us from making a positive impact in the world. All the moms out there are fearless, strong superheroes! You will get through this and be stronger on the other side. At Simple Satch, our goal is to be the little accessory that makes a big impact. We are here to empower you and give you the confidence to tackle the new normal and beyond in a fashionable way, especially because personal hygiene will never go out of style.

Giveaway

Good news! You can win a Simple Satch for your very own!!

The photo collage below shows the Simple Satch in action. You can wear it like a belly bag (as shown) or even as a cross-body bag. It’s tiny and easy to bring along with you, just big enough to carry the essentials. The photo in the top right shows all I fit in mine and my glasses next to it for sizing comparison. I have a tiny wallet/billfold that goes out with me (I no longer carry a giant wallet and my shoulder thanks me). I also fit my keys and cellphone. The essentials, along with the wipes pulled through the exterior pocket, mask, and hand sanitizer.  Perfect for on-the-go safety and carrying on with life.
