Tell us a little about yourself and your business.

Hello! My name is Stacey Stewart and I live in Charleston, SC with my husband and 3 kids. I’m a Certified Lactation Educator (CLE) and the founder of the online lactation education company, Milkology!

I teach breastfeeding classes and offer support, information, and encouragement to women. I also sell an online, on-demand breastfeeding class called The Ultimate Breastfeeding Class – Milkology breastfeeding class!

Why did you select it and how did you get started?

I have a Masters degree in teaching and breastfed all 3 of my kids until they were 2.5 (including twins!) so combining those two passions was a natural progression. But it all started back in early 2016 when my twins were 6 months old and I started a lactation cookie mix business. The cookie mixes were selling like hotcakes and moms LOVED them! But what I quickly noticed was that a lot of my customers came to me in desperation and looked to the lactation cookies to save their milk supply. A lot of them didn’t know what to expect and what was normal during breastfeeding. I realized there was a huge void out there of education in breastfeeding. I had an epiphany! I wanted to reach these women BEFORE they were desperate for solutions and had problems. So in the summer of 2017, I went back to school and became a Certified Lactation Educator (CLE). I then started an online lactation education company Milkology!

How does a reader interested in your goods or services shop from you? How does your biz help the consumer?

All the content I create is available through my website milkology.org. I create a TON of free content and host a podcast and breastfeeding show on YouTube! Each week I create new episodes and cover a lactation question women have in detail. My goal is to create a huge library of free resources for women around the world to have easy access to! I also offer a couple of free on-demand workshops through my website! (Breastfeeding Boot Camp and Master Your Milk Supply)

What are some of your favorite things about what you do?

I LOVE it when women say something specific I taught them helped them in a tangible way. Knowing what I teach leads to mothers and babies having a better chance of success makes me so happy! :)

What are some challenges of this business?

A lot of women don’t realize how important it is to learn about breastfeeding while pregnant. While breastfeeding is natural, it’s also naturally challenging and a lot of women struggle to get off to a great start. Oftentimes it isn’t until they’re postpartum and looking for answers that they wish they learned more beforehand. I wish I could reach every pregnant woman before they have their baby!

What does it take for someone to get started with their own side hustle?

Only a willingness to make it happen! Action is the most important thing. It’s easy to have big dreams and amazing ideas but the thing that separates those who DO and DO NOT is action. If you have a passion and a dream, go for it!

Anything else you would like to tell us about your business?

I still sell lactation treat mixes on the side! I love having a combination of digital products and e-commerce for my business. That way I can reach women through education AND a tangible (hold-in-your-hand) product.
