I am enjoying interviewing professionals and mom bosses about their line of work or their side hustles. Today I am sharing an interview with Sitinee Sheffert with Giving Artfully Kids.
Tell us a little about yourself and your business. Why did you select it and how did you get started?
I am the founder of Giving Artfully Kids, a program that teaches kids to make a difference through spreading kindness and helping others. It started as an afterschool program in my community where each week students craft an item for an organization or the community. We found that crafting is a great way to help children understand how they have the ability to help others.
As our program spread through the community, I started getting inquiries about implementing my program in other regions. That was when I started the concept of the Giving Artfully Kids Membership, which allows others to start my program in their community or have monthly projects to do at home with their kids. Our mission at Giving Artfully Kids is to build the foundation for a lifetime of giving and Build Generation Kindness!
Describe what you do and what you sell for those of us not familiar with your line of work or product.
The Giving Artfully Kids Membership provides crafting-based service projects for those interested in starting a Giving Artfully Kids program in their community. We provide training and lesson plans so you can help teach and empower children to spread kindness and help others. It’s a win-win – you are making an impact in your community while earning some extra income doing so!
For those just interested in projects to do at home with their children, we also provide monthly crafting-based service projects. It comes as a digital product that provides discussion questions to help children get into the mindset of who they are helping and why. We provide material lists, directions for the crafts and the beneficiary. We will soon be piloting an upgrade for those interested in having the materials sent along with the digital lesson plans. This is a great way to be intentional about teaching children about kindness on a regular basis!
What are some of your favorite things about what you do?
I love that we are impacting the next generation to show that they have the ability to make a difference. Show children at a young age the importance of kindness and helping others is so important, especially in today’s world. Knowing that Giving Artfully Kids can help with this movement makes me so excited about the impact it will have on the next generation.
What are some challenges of this business?
Being a mom of 5 and homeschooling for at least this year, it has been difficult to find the right balance between mom, teacher, and entrepreneur. Also, I am an introvert, so I am not the best about being vocal about my business.
For someone interested in what you do, can you share what to expect as far as earning potential and effort?
It may take some lead time to start the business. We would need to work on finding locations to run a program and get up to speed on the different projects. However, once you have the foundation set, you are in charge of the number of classes you want to teach, how much you would like to charge, and if you want to grow and hire instructors to help teach the programs. I have teachers that are teaching 4-5 times a week, sometimes making over $100 per class.
What does it take for someone to get started with their own side hustle in your line of work?
Grit, persistence, focus and an open mind to step out of your comfort zone.
Anything else you would like to tell us about your business?
