I am enjoying interviewing professionals about their line of work or their side hustles. Today I am sharing an interview with Jessie, who is an independent consultant for Norwex, a line of microfiber cloths to use for cleaning your home naturally.

Tell us a little about yourself and your business. Why did you select it and how did you get started?
A few years ago I was interested in finding a work from home job so that I could stay home with my son. A lady I knew from my childhood church introduced me to Norwex as an option. I fell in love with the company for a few reasons. In the beginning, it was great having cloths that mechanically remove bacteria from surfaces so my son (who was 2 at the time) could actually help clean with spraying water instead of other cleaners. As he got older he was able to clean the windows without Windex. It was awesome! In the beginning, I hosted a few Facebook parties, shared Norwex with family when I visited, and met with friends and neighbors for appetizers and information sessions. We focus on reducing chemicals in the home by using high-quality Microfiber to remove everything from the surface. Many cloths have silver embedded in them to self-purify as they dry. This reduces washing. Overall we can reduce time spent cleaning, reduce allergies in the home, reduce waste, and save money! Now, I have 2 sons that are very helpful when it comes to cleaning. I attend Vendor Events, and I am able to help a few friends by babysitting their kids. It’s convenient to have Norwex Kitchen Cloths on hand because we have a lot of spilled milk!
What are some of your favorite things about what you do?
I love being able to work with moms to find products that can help them. I feel like I understand what they are looking for since I am trying to keep a clean house with kids running around too. When I go to vendor events and home parties I am able to connect with other women – and sometimes men.
What are some challenges of this business?
One of the biggest challenges with my business is finding new leads. Once a lead becomes a customer, we are able to stay in touch but they don’t always need a new product. Online networking and vendor events are helpful in meeting new people to share ideas with. Part of the challenge is not sounding “salesy” or “pushy.” I want to build relationships first, after all, I’m a social person who spends most of my time with kids!
For someone interested in what you do, can you share what to expect as far as earning potential and effort?
As a consultant, there are many levels for commission and incentives. Initially, we make 35% commission. There are shopping sprees that can be earned when hitting fees steps and recruiting. There are also opportunities to earn free product packages through fresh step achievements and monthly sales achievements. It can be a lot of work up front. We recommend lining up a few parties before signing up so you are ready to meet steps without delay. Then, we look at the FRANK list (Friends, Relatives, Acquaintances, Neighbors, Kids contacts). This will help identify contacts to introduce to Norwex. The more contacts that are made and more time put into the business, the higher the earning potential. The first step is $400 in sales in 15 days. That could be one party and equals $140 commission. Add more parties and commission will increase.
What does it take for someone to get started with their own side hustle in your line of work?
It’s pretty easy to get started. There is a shipping fee for the sign-on package, which includes products and training materials. If $2000 in sales is met by 90 days, there is no fee! On average, that would be 5 parties in 3 months. We would work on getting some of those lined up immediately to help get the ball rolling.
