Side-Hustle Series: Interview with a Food Blogger

October 30, 2017 by Julie Leave a Comment

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe and join the tribe. Thanks for visiting!

I am enjoying interviewing professionals about their line of work or their side hustles. Today I am sharing an interview with food blogger, Osjetta. She blogs at Houston Food Fetish (yay Houston!) and has some fun things to share.

Here’s a recent fun post featuring the Broken Barrel restaurant she visited in the Woodlands area.

Side-Hustle Series: Interview with a Food Blogger

Tell us a little about yourself and your business. Why did you select it and how did you get started?

I started blogging as a hobby four years ago. Initially, I thought about Houston Food Fetish because I love to eat food and I was spending time enjoying different places around town, so I decided to share my experience.

Describe what you do and what you sell for those of us not familiar with your line of work or product.

I’m a food blogger, so I visit restaurants and share my experiences good or bad with my readers or social media followers. I want people to visit my site when they are looking for great places to eat. I recently started sharing my travel experiences as well.

What are some of your favorite things about what you do?

I love the food tastings when restaurants switch up their menu. It’s the best way to taste multiple food items.

What are some challenges of this business?

I’m trying to grow my blog and readership so the challenge is being consistent when you work full time and have other responsibilities like being a parent and caregiver to my father, which can impact consistency.

For someone interested in what you do, can you share what to expect as far as earning potential and effort?

I would recommend starting and setting up as a business in the beginning. The consistency I spoke of earlier is the best way to be seen by brands. Most of the earning potential as a blogger can depend on if you’re selling a product, charging for event coverage, become an influencer, or selling ads to businesses who can promote on your page. It all depends on your effort.

What does it take for someone to get started with their own side hustle in your line of work?

I would start by coming up with a name, getting a DBA, then find a platform to host your site. Then I would encourage anyone to join local blogger groups. I’ve learned so much from the more experienced bloggers. I’ve also learned a lot from younger bloggers who are ahead of the curve with technology.

Anything else you would like to tell us about your business?

I would just like to ask for support and let people know that my site is filled with delicious pictures of great food in and around Houston.
