Side Hustle Series: Interview with a Digital Marketing and SEO Consultant

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe and join the tribe. Thanks for visiting!

Side hustles and the idea of working from home are getting more and more popular these days as busy parents yearn for more flexibility and a better work-life balance.

I previously shared how affiliate marketing can be an incredible side-hustle, and now I am sharing an interview with a digital marketing and SEO consultant! Starting a part-time SEO consulting business from home doesn’t take as much as you might think, as the lovely Claudia will explain below. The best part is SEO consulting hourly rates are quite lucrative, so the hours of work required to reach a goal can be much lower than a full-time job.

Read on to learn more about starting a side-hustle in digital marketing and SEO.

Rock a Side Hustle in Digital Marketing & SEO

Tell us a little about yourself and your business.

My name is Claudia Pennington, and I’m a digital marketing consultant and trainer.  I live in Lancaster, PA and I LOVE hiking and kayaking!  I’m in the business of training aspiring freelancers and small businesses in the fundamentals of digital marketing and search engine optimization (SEO).

Can side hustles really help us get out of debt?

Absolutely!  Side hustling is one of the best ways to increase your income quickly, extra money you can use to crush debt.

If you’re living paycheck to paycheck like my husband and I were a couple of years ago, it might be tough to find extra money to accelerate debt payoff with just W-2 jobs.  We were paying the minimum payments on our debt, which is when we decided to focus on side hustling.

If you want to accelerate debt payoff, a side hustle can help you make extra money fast.

Did you try a lot of side hustles before you settled on digital marketing & SEO?

Over the years, I tried several different side hustles, thinking that my side hustle and my day job couldn’t be the same.  Ha!  I’ve done everything from delivering newspapers to seasonal retail.  But my day job was dedicated to marketing, so I focused on making marketing my side hustle by way of freelance work.

You have several free courses to introduce people to side hustles. Give us a brief intro to them.

If you’re interested in side hustling and you’re completely new to the idea, consider Side Hustle U.  Side Hustle U helps prepare aspiring side hustlers to create side hustle success.  I believe strongly in the need to be well prepared and to have a plan.

If someone is ready to take the next step, what will your course teach them?

If you’d like to explore a side hustle in digital marketing, check out my free video course that outlines what you need to know about becoming a digital marketing consultant.

In the video course, you’ll be given an opportunity to sign up for online training.  With our package of five online courses, you’ll learn the fundamentals of digital marketing AND how to find clients to launch your side hustle.

What does it take for someone to get started with their own side hustle in SEO/digital marketing?

To get started, you’ll need a computer and Internet access.  Once you’ve completed the online training courses, you just need to find clients, which we provide tips and coaching for. Most side hustlers have time to help one to two clients each month, which is between 10 and 40 hours each month.  And that’s it!
