Do you follow the tradition of sending Holiday cards? I’ve been sending them to friends and family for years, but this is the first year we’ve done a formal photo card.
The tradition is a bit curious; here are some facts:
- Americans send 1.6 billion holiday cards annually (and women purchase approximately 80% of all greeting cards) [source]
- E-cards have become an environmentally friendly alternative to paper cards [source]
- Christmas cards originated in London, where Sir Henry Cole commissioned the first in 1843. [Source]
- Despite the separation of church and state, it’s customary for the President and First Lady to send White House Christmas cards each holiday season. [source]
- Calvin Coolidge issued the first official Christmas message to the American people in 1927. [source]
Who do you typically send these cards to? Just family? Special friends? Bosses and coworkers?
I thought it would be fun to share this Infographic from Grammarly.com.
If you still haven’t created your lovely photo card this year, Minted has you covered.

For the last 4 or 5 five years I started sending E-cards and it was the best thing to do. I send them to family and friends and also to co-workers. They are easy, inexpensive and there are so many cool option out there that the difficulty is to choose a card.

Ecards sounds like a lot less hassle, but I don’t have most family member email addresses heh.

Clever! I usually send a holiday card, but I have a darn hard time finding a decent picture that has everyone in it. This year, I think I’m going to do a collage, so I can have my older son’s wedding picture (he got married LAST year, is that cheating?), my younger son’s Eagle Scout picture, and maybe one of me and Dad too. Sometimes, it seems so much easier when we just bought generic cards from the store and signed our names to them.

I think doing a collage is a really great idea! Doing generic cards is way easier I so am with you on that!
