7 Relaxing and Productive Ideas to Fill Those Small Spare Moments

April 7, 2024 by Julie Leave a Comment

Working moms have busy lives, and every moment is often filled with activities, social events, work, and being a parent. Finding those small pockets of time that are both relaxing and productive might be a challenge, but being able to relax guilt-free without any pressure or stress is an unbeatable feeling when you’re a busy, working mom.

You can do your activity without stress or worrying when it feels vaguely productive! With this in mind, here are seven ideas that are equally productive and relaxing so that you can fully enjoy those small spare moments that are presented to you in your daily life.

Play an Online Game

One of the best things about playing online games is that you can play them anytime and anywhere. Games such as bridge or Wordle are especially popular with busy moms because they give them something completely separate to focus on.

As much as you adore your children and would do anything for them, sometimes you need to switch off your brain, indulge in an online game, and work towards goals other than business, family, or social. Setting yourself a daily challenge to beat your time or surpass your top score is also an enjoyable element of online gaming!

Exercise

Moving your body will typically feel relaxing and productive as it will help to get rid of any built-up stress you might be feeling. Choose a type of exercise you love so that it doesn’t feel like a strenuous task you’re performing!

Plus, moving around gets those happy chemicals flowing in your brain. You’ll notice a boost in your mood right away. You don’t need fancy equipment or a gym membership, either. Just get moving in a way that feels good for you.

Call a Friend

Is there any better feeling than calling up a friend for a catch-up and spilling the tea? Chatting with a bestie can soothe your soul, make you feel so much more relaxed, and give you a ton of relief when you need it the most.

Talking to a friend can instantly de-stress you so that you feel as though you’ve been productive and relaxed all at the same time!

Meal Prep

Meal prep is such an easy way to boost your mood and get things done. It’s like a mini therapy session in your kitchen.

It feels calming when you chop veggies, cook grains, or marinate proteins. You can put on some music or a podcast while you work.

Knowing everything is in order for the week ahead will help you feel calmer, too! Having meals ready to go saves time during the week. No more scrambling to figure out what to eat when you’re tired. Just grab a container from the fridge, and you’re set!

Journaling and Gratitude

Writing in a journal and practicing gratitude is such a positive way to spend your spare time. Even when you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed, you can find something positive to write in your journal.

Journaling can be extremely cathartic for many busy parents who often lose themselves during the day. It allows you to move forward with your day in an uplifted way.

Go Shopping

Say less… Retail therapy is always a good idea when you’re in need of a little mood boost. Going shopping can completely change your mindset and allow you to feel good about yourself too!

Shopping isn’t just about buying stuff; it’s about the experience. Trying on clothes or browsing through cool gadgets can make you feel excited and alive. Plus, finding that perfect item can give you a nice confidence boost!

And let’s not forget the joy of a little splurge. It feels good to treat yourself after a tough week. Just remember to stick to what makes you happy without breaking the bank.

Plan for the Week Ahead

Moms are indeed the most organized people in the world; they get things done more efficiently than anybody. Planning ahead for the week is truly a form of relaxation for many moms because it means that the upcoming days will be much smoother and more enjoyable.

Pulling out your notebook and pen may not feel like a relaxing activity for many people, but it will certainly give your future self a helping hand. Planning the schedule for your job or business or ensuring your kids’ activities and appointments are all in order will help you feel super productive during any spare moments you have as a busy mom.

Relaxing and Productive Ideas to Fill Those Small Spare Moments

There are so many small, enjoyable activities that can completely transform the way you feel in an instant. Enjoy some gentle exercise or call up a friend you haven’t heard from in a while. This is your chance to offload and do something that makes you feel truly at ease. Try to take the pressure off your own shoulders and do something you genuinely enjoy. It doesn’t always have to be the most productive activity to work magic for your mental health. Try some of the ideas mentioned above, and you will soon feel refreshed, revived, and happier in those small spare moments throughout your day.
