How to Prevent Heat Headache and Sun Migraine Problems in summer
When it comes to caring for our bodies, one problem we often forget about is drinking more water in the summer. The warm weather comes out, so we spend a lot of our time outdoors – often enjoying socializing with friends. However, the problem is that most of us get so excited with our partying that we forget to take proper care of our bodies!
If you do that for too long, you’ll start to suffer from various problems – including headaches and migraines from heat. When that happens, you need to take action as this is your body, giving you a clear sign that all is not well. When you start to feel run down, and your head is giving you a lot of pain, and you’re wondering how to avoid a migraine, then you should consider making the following changes.
Focus on Hydration
First and most importantly, make sure that you drink a lot of water. There is no set amount that you should drink, as every person is different. We’d recommend that you try to get at least half a gallon (two liters) of water per day, if not more. If you do that, you will start to notice a significant improvement in how you feel, as the water helps to hydrate the body. A hydrated body helps fight heat and migraines.

When you are out and about enjoying the summer weather, make sure that you take into account just how damaging this is likely to be on your body. The sun is drying you out, using up all of the fluid that you have in your body. By drinking a lot of water, you make it much more likely that your body can handle the heat without dehydration. Maintain high fluid levels, and try to eat more foods with hydration in them, such as cucumbers. Fresh and enjoyable, these are also loaded with water, improving hydration.
Protect Your Eyes From the Sun and Bright Lights
Another thing to consider during the summer is that your eyes are taking in a lot of extra light, which can cause you to feel dizzy and to suffer from headaches. So, make sure that you protect your eyes from the sun with a pair of protective sunglasses.
Make sure that any glasses you buy for the summer have UV protection, as this is a significant part of why our eyes begin to sting and hurt so much. If you take the time to protect your eyes, you will make sure that you spend a lot less time suffering from headaches. Alongside dehydration, this is the most common reason for suffering from regular headaches.
Try and avoid spending too much time with bright lights in your face, also. Especially during summer, we recommend that you try and stay shielded from excess brightness. A gazebo or even a canopy can avoid needless lighting, getting into your eyes, and leaving you feeling uncomfortable.
So, try and stay away from bright light as it can often leave you with sore and otherwise damaged eyes. If your eyes feel like they are straining, then you should look to get inside for a while. Being outside for so long can cause swelling in the nerve endings in the head, leading to dilated blood vessels and thus headaches.
Take Care of Your Medications
When you are dealing with the heat and ferocity of the sun, staying on top of medication is essential. If you are someone that needs to take some form of medicine during summer, then make sure that you do so in a manner that is healthy and safe.
You should look to keep your medicine in a cool, secure, and core places to help ensure that the temperature does not impact on the quality of your medicine or the standard of the care they provide.
Follow a Healthy Diet
Also, during the summer, it’s easy – too easy – to eat poorly. All of those nights on the town can see you eating out a lot more at restaurants, street food vendors and the like. Try to follow a healthier diet and start eating more fruit and vegetables. When the weather is so hot, a crispy salad or a juicy piece of orange can be far more enjoyable than a hot meal, anyway.
Try and keep this in mind, and, alongside maintaining high fluid intake, keep eating healthily. This will help to give your body the vitamins and nutrients it needs to handle the hot weather without adverse impact on the body.
Check Your Exercise Routine
Lastly, make sure that you start taking into account the kind of exercise that you do. It’s a lovely time of year, so getting out there to do some swimming, walking, jogging, and running can make a lot of sense. Try and make sure that you are out and about for most of it: save sweaty gym work and other similar exercises for the winter.
But, be sure to stay out of the direct sun during the hottest time of day. The effects from the sun are felt strongest usually in the mid-to-late afternoon and can bring about a headache from sun.
Use the sunny outdoors to get out there, boost your Vitamin D intake, and make sure you keep on working out well. Keep those bones taking in all of the extra Vitamin D, and keep yourself out there until the sun starts to go down. From a basic run to some cycling, there are many ways to get fit and to enjoy summer all at once.
