Why would you say these things to a pregnant woman?

Why would you say these things to a pregnant woman?

There’s this one lady at work who every time she sees me will say things that are quite inappropriate. She doesn’t say them in a rude way, but what she says is not something I feel good hearing. Seriously, why would someone say such things to a pregnant woman? Here’s what I mean: * You’re due in November? Oh there’s no way you’ll make it that long as big as you are. [Umm.. so you’re telling me I’ll have a preemie just because I’m big?] * Are you sure you’re just having one? [Yes, just one, thanks for calling me […]

My Guest Post – Women at Work Blog Series

My Guest Post – Women at Work Blog Series

Women at Work Blog Series Hello everyone. My name is Julie and I work as an environmental consultant. Here is my career journey. I went to college at University of California, Davis. I actually started out in Computer Science & Engineering, but (not too quickly) realized that wasn’t quite for me. So partway through my college career I switched majors within the College of Engineering and became a major in Chemical Engineering. With all the classes I had already taken, I kept a minor in Computer Science, and I also had planned to do a Business type minor (though in […]

Cat Thursday – Sept 18, 2014

Cat Thursday – Sept 18, 2014

I haven’t done Cat Thursday in a really long time, and I thought I’d try getting back into it. This particular Cat Thursday is brought to you by – cats in places they don’t belong. Ok, one cat, one place she doesn’t belong: the changing table. I have it all ready for Smurfberry’s debut into this world in a couple of months and what does Dusty Rose do? Yep, she finds it and sits on it. To be fair, there’s a super soft changing pad up there. Also, it is nice and high and dogs can’t reach her. […]

“50 Things to Know About Breastfeeding: Quick Tips for New Moms” Review

“50 Things to Know About Breastfeeding: Quick Tips for New Moms” Review

Since I’m a mom-to-be and plan to breastfeed,. I jumped on the opportunity to read 50 Things to Know About Breastfeeding: Quick Tips for New Moms for free in exchange for my review. I was provided a PDF of the book. I really enjoyed reading 50 things to know about breastfeeding. Each tip and suggestion contained good reminders and appeared to be well-researched. This book has information on the benefits of breastfeeding, as well as some things to expect based on different ages of the child. My only complaint is the lack of editing. There were too many mistakes and that is […]

“50 Things to Know About Surviving the First Year of Parenthood: Simple Advice for New Parents” Review

“50 Things to Know About Surviving the First Year of Parenthood: Simple Advice for New Parents” Review

Since I’m a mom-to-be, I’ve been interested in reading some parenting books. I jumped on the opportunity to read 50 Things to Know About Surviving the First Year of Parenthood: Simple Advice for New Parents for free in exchange for my review. I was provided a PDF of the book. Honestly, I can’t say this was a very helpful book overall. The 50 things list read more like a blog post of observations (for example, not being able to sleep through the night anymore) than real tips. Plus, there were errors everywhere. Since the book is already out there and available for purchase, […]

Kitchen Cabinet Hardware Update Project

Kitchen Cabinet Hardware Update Project

The hardware on the kitchen cabinets that came with our house when we bought it had to go. Sure, it was cool looking and modern and very sharp. Unfortunately, that last part was literally. If you brush up or lean up against them, ouch! After multiple bruises on my hips and scrapes on my hands from using my kitchen normally, I had enough. Hubby even said that the hardware on the island is perfectly positioned to attempt to keep us from having any future children. So in an effort to start child-proofing and help ourselves not have any more […]

“Cutting Though the Clutter of Life” Review

“Cutting Though the Clutter of Life” Review

Even though I purged a lot of stuff before we moved into this house in February, my home is  quite cluttered. Part of the problem is that we haven’t unpacked everything, or we’re still working on projects, so stuff is just everywhere. Since I got pregnant right away, my motivation and energy levels are zilch for organizing and de-cluttering. So I jumped on the opportunity to read and review this book to see if it can help me get on track. Below are my thoughts. The book’s strengths: The book starts out with a motivational section on why you should consider de-cluttering, […]

“50 Things to Know about Modern Manners: Etiquette is a Way of Life” Review

“50 Things to Know about Modern Manners: Etiquette is a Way of Life” Review

I have an interest in rules of etiquette so I thought I would take a look at the book 50 Things to Know about Modern Manners: Etiquette is a Way of Life and provide a brief review here on my blog. I often feel general rules of etiquette are not followed in normal daily interactions with people, and that is why people tend to get so upset with one another. All of us can benefit from a refresher in some of these generally accepted rules and tips for interacting with other people. Title: 50 Things to Know About Modern Manners: Etiquette is a Way Of […]

Welcome to Third Trimester

Welcome to Third Trimester

Today I am at 29 weeks pregnant, so I’m well into in my third trimester. I thought this would be a good opportunity to reflect upon the end of the second trimester and everything we’ve accomplished so far. I took this photo a few days ago so I thought I’d share it as part of this post. Smurfberry’s accomplishments: By the end of the second trimester, Smurfberry: * Weighs about 2 pounds (or more, since we’re measuring bigger) * Can kick and poke (and oh boy does he!) * Has thickened layers of skin, some hair and body fat. * […]

Second Trimester Update

Second Trimester Update

As  I’m finishing up my 24th week, I thought I’d reflect on how my second trimester has been going. In short: it has been great! The second trimester is known for being the most comfortable, and I can certainly say it is much better than the first! What has changed: 1. The nausea is gone, hurray! All the food aversions seem to be behind me. I guess bring on the cravings? 2. The breathlessness is gone and I finally have the energy to go up the stairs once or twice if I really need to. I’ve even walked over a […]
