Our DIY Swing set project

January 25, 2016 by Julie 10 Comments

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe and join the tribe. Thanks for visiting!

Baby H got a lovely toddler swing for his first birthday, but hadn’t been able to use it too much. See, it is meant to be hanging from something, and that something is typically a tree. But it has been raining so much here lately, and our yard stays wet for days and days after a big storm. So we really didn’t get to swing him much since no one wants to wade through  mud to swing a little boy.

Hubby to the rescue with a DIY idea to build a swing set out of lumber that can stand on our patio and thus be available for any good weather days, no matter what the condition of our lawn is.

He did the bulk of the work, because he’s awesome and I’m not handy at all. He basically built two A-frames connected at the top and bottoms. I helped paint! We picked “Safety Yellow” as the color because yellow is Baby H’s favorite color. And yes, we know that because we have a ball pit in his room, and he only digs out and carries around the yellow balls.

Work in progress:

Now if it would only stop being so cold, we could enjoy this more often.

What do you think?

Wow! Well done. Though I have to say that I loved going to the playground a lot when my kids were babies, as we lived in Brooklyn, and I got to meet lots of other parents with kids the same age.

We do have a small playground in our subdivision, but I almost never see anyone using it when I have time to take him heh. It still is only good when the ground is dry, which hasn’t been the case lately. I do want to take the little guy to parks more often, but he’s “done” very quickly when there are a lot of people around so it hasn’t been worth getting him in the car and driving to the nearest park too often. Maybe as he gets older and is a little more able to play on everything that will change. Thanks Lana 🙂

Wow! I’m super impressed with how handy your husband is! 🙂 Do you have room for this swing set in the living room? 😉

In the living room? Ha, maybe if we remove the couch.

Yea having to rely on trees is just not feasible for everyone. Hope you find way to make this swing work for you 🙂 if your kiddo is anything like mine, he will absolutely love having a swing.
