The day my son was born, I transformed into someone new. Picture a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly because becoming a Mom is a transformation of epic proportions. It is a moment when you finally see the world from a perspective outside yourself, and the world takes on new meaning. I’ve heard it said that watching your child is like watching your heart walk around outside your body, and I completely understand that sentiment now.
Holding my little baby in my arms for the first time, I couldn’t help but think about how his childhood will be and what I can do to make his life special. I am the primary breadwinner in our marriage, so going back to work was always a given. I knew my time with my baby would be limited during the day, making it especially important to give him special attention when I am spending time with him.
It is too easy to get caught up in the day-to-day demands of a full-time job, blogging, and family expectations, but it is very important to spend quality time with our loved ones. I didn’t even know how difficult becoming a new mom was going to be, and it sure took some time for me to get the hang of motherhood and caring for a tiny human. For a long time, I was in survival mode. I had to survive on little sleep, keeping myself and my baby healthy, while having a long commute and working a full-time schedule. My early days of motherhood are still a blur, and when the dust settled and I started to get the hang of things, I realized that I needed to focus on making a special connection with my child during our interactions.
It wasn’t enough to go through the pattern of changing, feeding, and helping my infant sleep, but we also needed to spend time getting to know each other and bond. Bonding time is how we fall in love with these tiny humans and what makes our hearts grow as mothers. My Mother’s Promise to my child is to be attentive and present and respond to his needs. Helping my child thrive and be surrounded by love is priority number one.
I plan to make this promise happen by these example actions:
- Reading books to him.
- Singing a lullaby before bed.
- Get down on the floor and play together.
- Play games during bath time.
- Playing outside when the weather is nice.
- Hold him if he has trouble sleeping.

I will keep this promise close to my heart and on my mind by having this lovely image to refer to and remind myself of my Mother’s Promise.
Another way I’m keeping my promise to help my baby thrive and feel loved is by using Pampers diapers. The Pampers Premium Care are hypoallergenic and breathable and contain a wetness indicator in addition to extra absorbing liners. Helping my baby boy stay dry and avoid diaper rash makes him sleep longer, which means more rest for me as well, and both of us having more fun when we interact. You can purchase Pampers Premium Diapers at Walmart.
