Many of us have said our goals are to get healthy this year. Sure, most of us say “lose weight” but let’s focus on the bigger picture – losing extra weight will help us be healthy, just as getting more physically fit will. So, let’s have a little fun and find ways to motivate ourselves to move more.
Here are some ways I am planning on burning 100 (or more) calories:
- Walking around the neighborhood. I love going for walks, and I miss the fall when the evenings were cool and sunny and I could go walking after work. I’m looking forward to that again this spring, but at least I can enjoy a nice stroller stroll with Baby H on the weekends.
- Chasing Baby H around the yard. Again, on warmer, sunnier weekends, and definitely when it dries up (because all this rain lately has made our yard so swampy). But isn’t that a fun way to burn some calories?
- My elliptical machine. A 20-minute workout on my elliptical burns quite a few calories, and really what is 20 minutes? Now as long as Baby H stays entertained with some building blocks, I might make this an evening routine.
What are some fun ways you’re burning calories and staying on track with your resolutions?

I so love this! It’s hard for me to get out in the winter (the cold affects my muscles adversely, my disease) so from your chart I see that I actually burn calories shopping, go to the grocery multiple (too many) times a week and cooking! As long as I keep my fingers out of the sauce, or the raw cookie dough lol. There is hope for me yet. Love walking outside in all other seasons, can’t wait for spring!

I can’t wait for spring too! The cold is really rough on my plantar fasciitis (I’ve had feet problems for years now). Even standing up burns a ton more calories than sitting, so that’s why you are tired after standing and cooking for a while. And grocery shopping is definitely like taking a walk around the neighborhood.

Impromptu dance party is my favorite mini calorie burner! 🙂

Hehe I don’t know if I’ve had very many impromptu dance parties.

I wish I had an eliptical machine. I can’t wait until it gets warm to go for walks.

I found mine used via Craigslist. Now it’s gathering dust at my house like it was at their house lol

If only I could squeeze time out of my day to do yoga, or even shower!

Ha, yes, finding the time is so hard!
