One of the most primary things all parents should keep in mind, especially during the winter, is to know how to keep their baby warm.

Babies are not able to regulate their body temperature. Therefore, it is your responsibility as the parent to know how to keep your baby warm in the bassinet and the different ways you can keep them warm.

Babies can lose body heat four times faster than adults, and during the winter, it is crucial to keep your child warm and comfortable. That’s why a lot of parents use bedside bassinet that connects to the bed to stay in touch with infants,

Although it is recommended that new parents and their babies go out for some fresh air, parents need to keep a few things in mind during the winter. Keeping your baby indoors in a warm environment is highly recommended during the wintertime.

How to keep Infant Baby Warm in Winter

So, let’s get hands-on and look at some of the best methods to keep your baby warm in a bassinet during winter.

1. Dressing Your Baby in Layers

Dressing your baby in layers is one of the primary ways to keep your baby warm. If you are comfortable wearing a few layers of clothing, the baby should be wearing more.

As mentioned earlier, babies cannot regulate their body temperature and also lose heat faster than adults.

One of the best ways to keep your babies warm in winters is dressing up your babies in layers. The inner layer can be a snug bodysuit and then layered on with a full-sleeved shirt and pants, finishing it off with a jacket.

Parents must ensure that the clothing is made out of comfortable and breathable fabrics to not overwhelm or discomfort the baby.

The clothes should also be easily removable in case the baby is feeling uncomfortable from all the layers.

2. Cover Head, Hands, Feet & Regulate Room Temperature

In addition to clothing layers, parents must also keep covering the baby’s head, hands, and feet. A baby’s hands, head, and feet can lose a lot of heat from the body.

Therefore, it is essential to cover them up during the winter for that extra layer of warmth. You can keep the head warm with a soft and comfortable cap, the hands with a pair of mittens, and the feet with some warm socks.

It is very crucial to keep the temperature right in the environment the baby is in. If the temperature is too high indoors, layering the baby in clothes is unnecessary.

Too much heat indoors can make the baby’s skin feel dry due to the low humidity inside.

Parents should ensure not to keep the indoor temperature too high or too low. Keeping the temperature at 68 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees Celsius) is the ideal indoor temperature.

3. Use Fitted Sheets & Warm Up the Bassinet

Using fitted sheets for your baby’s crib is very important. Buying a pair of well-fitted sheets made out of the right quality and providing warmth will keep the baby warm and comfortable at night.

Before putting your baby to sleep for the night, it is best to prepare the baby’s crib by preheating it with a hot water bag or a hot water bottle at least 30 minutes beforehand.

When it is time to put your baby to sleep, the crib is already warm and cozy to sleep peacefully without any discomfort.

4. Swaddle Your Baby

When it is too cold and when the baby is put to sleep, dressing them in layers can become very uncomfortable.

Dressing your baby up in a bodysuit and then swaddling them with a comfortable and not too thick blanket can keep the baby warm during the nights.

Conclusion

Following any or all of the mentioned ways to keep your baby warm will ensure that your baby will stay warm and comfortable, especially during the winter.

Parents should keep a close eye on their babies to ensure that they are not too uncomfortable or overheating from the temperature indoors or the clothes they are wearing.

Suppose their baby is showing any signs of feeling cold. In that case, parents should use warm clothing to reheat the baby’s body to bring up their body temperature.

Suppose you have taken the baby outside and notice that they are getting cold. In that case, it is highly advised to bring them inside and provide them with warmth using the methods mentioned above.
