Growing as a Motherhood Blogger and Influencer

December 31, 2020 by Julie Leave a Comment

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe and join the tribe. Thanks for visiting!

I first rebranded my general blogging after my son was born, and I returned to work. That renewed purpose and passion for sharing my experiences and connecting with others is what created Fab Working Mom Life, my passion project, and side hustle.

While I had been using blogging tech personally, changing focus to a professional blog was such a learning opportunity, both about myself and the blogging industry. I learned so much about blogging over these last few years and so much about being an influencer in the motherhood niche. I’m sharing some of these tips and the growth process with you here.

Set a Focus on your Content

While I’m not going to tell you to niche down incredibly, But, have a key personality in mind for your reader. My reader is a working mom struggling with returning to work after having a child and finding herself juggling all the things.

This reader might even be yourself from a few years ago. What did you need and now have overcome?

Think about what you can do to help that potential reader, and you have yourself a focus for your influence and blog content. Focus your content and your social media presence on sharing posts that help this reader.

Set Goals for your Blog

Setting goals and intentions is so important to keep you from blindly chasing every squirrel. When setting these goals – focus on each 3-month period. Where do you want to be in 3 months? Trying to plan too far in the future gets overwhelming quickly.

Think about how many posts you want to have in that time frame, how many new readers you want to reach, and how you plan to reach them. Learn about search keywords for both Google and Pinterest search, and use social media to round out your influence presence.

This is a business

Also, set intentions for your blog income. It is important to think about the financial aspect of professional blogging. While a few pro bono campaigns are great – the bottom line is this is a business. You earn income and growth if you can put in the time, effort, and energy.

My best income year was 2018, and I was on a great growth path. I was able to dedicate a lot of time to growing my blog and reaching out to brands. We moved overseas in 2019, so my blog income dipped as my focus and time budget shifted to navigating that adventure and coordinating our new life. And in 2020? Well, that was a completely doozy of a year, and I scaled back a lot just making the juggling act between my career, my child being home all the time, and remote learning. But I have new goals and intentions set for 2021.

Work toward Growth

To place yourself in the right mindset as a blogger and influencer, pick the projects you work on and brands you collaborate with very carefully. Everything should move toward your goal and be useful to your ideal reader. Anything that is not useful to your ideal reader needs to be cut out. Your blog and time and energy budget will thank you.

As you’re focusing on growth, continue to think about the type of content you like to share or save on Pinterest. Write content like that – content that helps people, content that inspires. Content that people want to read again. If that is the kind of metric you use on your blog posts, your social media posts, and your influencer brand, other people will share, and you will see growth.

Here’s a great example of a motherhood influencer who has seen tremendous growth.

Connect with your Readers

Your readers want to hear from you – they want to hear your voice, read about your experiences, your take on the topic. They want you to show up consistently, and they want to feel like they know you and trust you. That’s why an email list is so important – continually connect with the people who choose you. Stay present on Instagram and other social media outlets. Even if it’s a quick post – keep reminding your readers you’re here and why they want to keep following with your journey and your tips.

Your Turn

What niche or genre are you picking for your influencer and blogger brand? Have you recently launched, or have you been at it for a while? Share your blog with me in the comments!
