Juggling a remote job while refereeing sibling squabbles and hunting for lost toys is the reality for so many of us. Some days, just getting through the day feels like a win.
It’s easy to let our own needs slip to the bottom of the to-do list. With a few intentional shifts, you can feel more confident and productive when working remotely, even amidst the beautiful chaos of family life.

Dress for the Day You Want
It’s so tempting to stay in pajamas all day when your commute is just a few steps away. While comfort is important, how you present yourself affects how you feel.
The National Library of Medicine conducted a study regarding the connection between self-esteem and productivity. When you feel good about yourself, you’re more likely to feel motivated and satisfied in your work. Taking anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour to get ready in the mornings can change the trajectory of your workday.
This doesn’t mean you need to wear a business suit. Try mixing and matching apparel pieces that are comfortable yet beautiful. A soft knit sweater, some stretchy yet stylish pants, and a little mascara can do wonders for your mindset. It sends a signal to your brain that it’s time to switch from “mom mode” or “relax mode” to a work mindset.
Your Office, Your Happy Place
Your workspace has a big impact on your mood and concentration. Working from the kitchen table means dealing with constant interruptions and clutter. Carving out a small, dedicated corner just for you can help create a mental boundary between work and home life.
Make it a space you enjoy being in, even if it’s just a nook in your bedroom. Add a plant, a favorite photo, or a nice-smelling candle to personalize your area. Keeping your work supplies organized in bins or a small cart lets you easily tuck them away at the end of the day.
Stay Organized To Stay Sane
When you have a million things on your mind, from deadlines to dinner plans, a good system is the best way to stay organized and productive as a working mom. A shared digital calendar with your partner can help manage family appointments, while a planner or to-do list can keep your work tasks from becoming overwhelming.
Time blocking is another effective strategy. Dedicate chunks of time to your most important work tasks and communicate your schedule to your family. It helps set expectations and reduces interruptions, letting you dive deeper into your work.
Give Yourself Grace
Some days will be a mess no matter how well you plan, and that is completely okay. The baby will refuse to nap, a toddler will have a meltdown during an important call, and you might feel like you are failing at everything. On those days, remember to give yourself grace.

You’re doing an incredible job balancing two demanding roles! Celebrate the small victories, whether it’s finishing a report or just getting everyone fed. Remember that this season of life is temporary, and you are doing your best. Taking small steps to feel more confident and productive when working remotely is about progress, not perfection.
