Pamper Yourself
Find time to pamper yourself, after all, this is self-care. Indulge in that typical self-care you see on social media and online. Make a reservation for a massage or a facial. Try a self-care treatment you’ve always wanted to try and embody the self-care practice as much as possible.
Take the time after a stressful workday to relax and treat yourself. There are so many ways you can pamper yourself without even leaving your home. Draw yourself a nice warm bubble bath, add some bath bombs or drop some essential oils into your diffuser, and decompress. After your zen bath time, you can do your skincare routine, rehydrate with some water and have a yummy snack. Self-care can really be that simple and easy!
Take Care of Your Mental Health
As a busy working mom, lots can weigh on your mind. Between balancing your children’s activities, maintaining a neat home, providing dinner, scheduling family time, and taking care of yourself you have a lot on your list to do. Your long list of to-dos might even be a stressor for you. With so much to do, and little time to do it feelings of anxiety can easily arise.
Anxiety can start to hinder your ability to complete tasks and get in the way of daily life. With the build-up of stress and anxiety, it’s important for you to look into finding relief. There are many types of therapy that can give you the relief you are looking for. Seeking professional help when it comes to anxiety and stress can be very beneficial. With help, you will be able to improve your quality of life.
Get Physical
Whether it’s a yoga class, a pilates workout, or a quick walk around your neighborhood it’s important to get physical. Exercise not only benefits your physical health but your mental health as well and it’s a great form of self-care.
Working out can be a mental escape for many people. It gives us an opportunity to focus on what we are doing, test our strengths and reduce any anxiety we have built up. Exercise in a way that makes you feel good because, in the end, moving in a way you enjoy is key when you view exercise as self-care.
Go Out for Date Night
Chances are if you’ve been too busy with work to practice self-care you might be lacking maintenance in other areas of your life. It’s important to continue to prioritize your romantic relationship even when you’re busy. As parents, you can often get caught up on the things you have to do for the kids.
Ask yourself, when was the last time you and your partner went out on a date? Whether it was last week or a few months ago, schedule another date night. Decide on an activity that is fun for you both. Check out some date night ideas so you can get some inspiration or want to try something new. Talk about your relationship, what you can do better, what you’re doing great at now and how you can continue to make this relationship amazing.
Getting out of the house (or even an evening in) and spending time with your partner is a great way to reset and get quality time with each other.
Declutter Your Space
Seeing a mess as soon as you walk into the house after a long day of work can add even more stress to your plate. Having dispersed piles of clutter in your home can definitely have a psychological impact on moms. As working mothers, it can be hard to balance a clean house, work, and family. Coming home from work to a mess is not a good feeling.
Instead, coming home to a clean and inviting home is more like it. That’s why taking time to declutter your space every day is a wonderful self-care practice. Not only are you tidying up your home but you are creating an environment where your mentality can thrive. Getting rid of junk and organizing your items can reduce stress and even check off some things on your to-do list.
Unplug
With technology today it can be hard to unplug. Sometimes we don’t even realize how influential social media is in our lives. Social media is both a positive and negative thing. Lots of times social media can bring out our insecurities, provoke anxiety, or cause stress as it often makes it easy to compare our life to others.
Take care of yourself and prevent those feelings from popping up by unplugging. Put your phone away for the night after you get home from work. Spend time with your family cooking dinner, playing a game, and getting ready for bed. Don’t check your phone until the next morning. This separation will definitely help and is a great form of self-care.
Self-care is definitely possible for busy working moms. With numerous ways to practice self-care, there is inner peace out there for you to achieve. In 2023, make practicing self-care a habit and continue to prioritize the things that make you happy. Moms, you deserve to feel happy, at peace, and worry-free!
