Embracing how a baby changes your life

Embracing how a baby changes your life

Having a baby is absolutely life changing. I knew this and expected things to be different, but boy was I not prepared for the magnitude of it all. Here are just a few (some silly, some serious) ways a baby changes your life. How a baby changes your personal life: Suddenly you’re not the center of your own world. Another little being has taken over your attention and all your time. Activities and hobbies that were important to you before take a backseat or are forgotten altogether. Doing things you used to enjoy takes so much effort and planning that […]

Falling in love with the baby

Falling in love with the baby

I can’t pinpoint the exact moment I fell in love with my baby. I do know it wasn’t the exact moment he came out of me – because what I felt at that time (other than pain) was an “Oh Capital S what did I get myself into?” feeling. I felt disconnected during my pregnancy and didn’t really comprehend the magnitude of feelings I would feel for the little alien growing inside me. I’m glad I was told by other mothers not to expect to be in love with the baby right away, and that was okay and normal. I […]

Mid-Year Goals Check-in

Mid-Year Goals Check-in

At the start of the year, I shared my goals for 2015. These goals fall into categories of Life, Home, Financial, Body, and Mind. I thought it would be good to do a mid-year check-in. Life Find Balance. Find balance between family and work and friends and hobbies. Check-in: I’m managing balancing work and family quite well, but not so well with the friends and hobbies. The blogs I’m managing better than expected, but I haven’t read any books at home or gone to book club meetings, and I so rarely see my friends anymore. Le sigh. Make time for myself and […]

Silly Baby Loves His Playpen

Silly Baby Loves His Playpen

Baby H started crawling recently, and even pulling up to standing the other day, so now a lot more of the house is accessible to him. It is so amazing to watch him wiggle around a room, but it also is dangerous. It isn’t possible to 100% baby proof everything since even the coffee table (which happens to be where we eat, in front of the TV) can hurt him if he falls on it. He started getting bored in his pack & play since it really didn’t give him much room to move, so we decided to get a […]

Our Breastfeeding Challenges

Our Breastfeeding Challenges

I’ve shared our early breastfeeding journey and my favorite things about breastfeeding for Baby H’s first 6 months. I think it also makes sense to share our current and ongoing struggles. I absolutely LOVE the post “To The Mom Who Didn’t Breastfeed” on Scary Mommy because there’s so much truth to that post. I love this part: Breastfeeding is about more than the milk. It’s about feeding your baby against your body, the two of you gazing at each other in wonder. It is connection. It is touch. It is two souls who spent ages looking for one another and […]

Why you won’t see photos of my baby on this blog

Why you won’t see photos of my baby on this blog

The more I get into blogging, especially “mommy” blogging, the more I see something that terrifies me. Okay, maybe terrifies isn’t the right word, but this activity makes me very uncomfortable, to say the least. I’m talking about bloggers sharing large, detailed photographs of their children on their blogs.  Does anyone else see the dangers in this? Aren’t we warned against posting our vacation schedules on social media to avoid inviting criminals to break into our houses when they know we are away? Haven’t we been told that once something is posted online, it is there forever?   As a […]

Dear Baby, We’re in this Together

Dear Baby, We’re in this Together

Dear Baby H, Hello, sweet little one this is your Mama. You know me now, I can tell. I can see the recognition in your eyes, in your smile, in your excited little squeals when I talk to you or hug you or steal some of those baby kisses. I know you now, too. I know your sweet tickle spots that make you giggle. I know you like to have your head rubbed gently and no longer want to be rocked like a newborn but instead held vertically over my shoulder like the growing boy that you are.  We’re figuring […]

Making homemade baby food, my first attempt and some tips I learned

Making homemade baby food, my first attempt and some tips I learned

When Baby H turned 6 months old, I decided to start solid foods by making some of my own. I had a few samples and a few jars we bought at the store, but I also thought why not make some myself? Trying to avoid encouraging a sweet tooth, I decided veggies would be better than fruit to start out with. I started with one sweet potato and some large carrots – figuring those were good and simple vegetables to puree for the little guy. I decided to start with one solid food meal a day for now, and we […]

Stop losing your child’s stuff with StickerKid

Stop losing your child’s stuff with StickerKid

My child care currently consists of a nanny, who watches one other child in addition to mine. It hasn’t quite come up yet, but as they both acquire more “stuff”, it might get difficult to tell which toy belongs to which child. This becomes even more of a concern when going on play dates and visiting family. I certainly don’t want an avoidable meltdown simply because I left behind a beloved toy, or accidentally brought home a toy that belongs to another child. That’s why I’m so excited to find a label service like StickerKid. They make adorable “this belongs […]
