Baby H 9 Month Update

August 3, 2015 by Julie 26 Comments

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe and join the tribe. Thanks for visiting!

I can’t even believe that my little baby is 9 months old today! He is also 39 weeks old, so he has been out in this world longer now that he was inside of me. That is just surreal.  Both of us have grown so much over the past 9 months (obviously him more than me, but still). I wanted to take a moment and reflect on all the milestones reached.

Baby H’s Milestones:

  • He is nearly 22 pounds now! We have a 9-month check-up on Friday so we’ll find out the actual height/weight then. EDIT: at this appointment Baby H is 22lbs 9oz and 29 and 3/4 inches tall!
  • He has two bottom teeth, and a top tooth is on the way.
  • He can Army crawl around pretty quickly and is a great sitter.
  • He pulls up to standing very well and enjoys standing for a while.
  • He claps and high fives and loves to slap things (and people).
  • He can pick up food and put it in his mouth, so not only does he get his fruits and veggies in puree form (thicker now than before) but he also gets some soft finger foods to play with.
  • He’s gotten really good with holding his bottle when laying down, but can’t quite drink well from it when sitting. He’s not too sure about the sippy cup yet, though he does show interest in it if I pretend to drink from it first.
  • He says “Mama” fairly regularly, and has said “Dada” a few times.
  • He loves his musical toys and has learned which buttons make the sounds happen.
  • He has the funniest facial expressions sometimes, especially if he isn’t sure about the taste of something.
  • He loves animals and gets excited to see our pets running around. He’s also enjoyed the zoo.
  • He’s gone on his first road trip and his first flight and has now been to 7 states.
  • He went swimming for the first time at my parents’ pool and loved it. My parents bought him this floaty and it is absolutely brilliant.

My Milestones:

  • I became a working mom.
  • I’ve learned how to function on about 4 hours of sleep, sort of well enough I suppose.
  • Even with all the struggles, I’ve breastfed/pumped for 9 months.
    BF9mo
  • I’ve nursed him at the drive-in movies and on a flight.
  • I’ve gotten good at carrying him one-handed and doing other things one-handed.
  • I know how to rock him to calm him down, throw him around to make him squeal, and tickle him to make him laugh.

Things I’d like us to work on:

  • He’s not a good sleeper and this mama is so tired. I keep reading that babies are supposed to sleep for 12 hours at night? I’m lucky if I get him to sleep for 6, usually with one time waking to feed.
  • I need to work on my own health and well-being. I’ve started (sporadically) working out and maybe if I can get more sleep and feel stronger I can start losing this baby weight.
  • I guess he’ll be walking soon, and I’m not sure how I feel about that.
  • I want him to learn some more words, so he can better communicate what he is fussing about.
  • We’re starting to work on picture and word recognition. He has so many great books with colorful animals that he should start learning which one is a dog for example.

I’m in awe of this little man every day as he grows and I grow with him.

You’re on your way to GOLD BOOBS! Oh their faces when they taste something new food, even some foods they’ve had before; nothing like it. Fab floater, one to have!

What a blessing watching them grow. To months and years ahead! #CommentLuv

Aww it’s nice to read an update of a baby a similar age. He sounds like he is doing great and well done on the breastfeeding/pumping we are still breastfeeding too. We are also lacking in the sleep department. Thanks for linking to #picknmix

Great update! I just recently returned to work full-time again and it is very challenging especially with two and now a blog. And I agree that sometimes we tend to forget to take care of ourselves because we put so much in to our kids. Thanks for sharing. #ConfessionsLinkUp

Lovely update! Enjoy every moment because it goes so quickly!! Too quickly! S just turned 3 yrs and 5 mnths and I’m not ready for him to be such a little boy just yet.
If you feel you need some extra support with the sleep issue, search for “Wait it out mummies” on Facebook. It’s a non-CIO group and the lovely members there always have some great sleep advice/breastfeeding while sleeping advice.

What a wonderful update! I miss having a baby around the house, but I do enjoy those full nights of sleep….well, I may be a bit of an insomniac some nights, but that’s me making the decisions there 😉 We still have a few wet beds or scary dreams to get us up at night though. A part of me does miss waking up in the middle of the night to nurse the babies. Enjoy him while he’s little, it doesn’t last long! Thanks for linking up to the Sunshine Life Link Up. I can’t wait to read even more updates.

You’re right, the little phase doesn’t last long, though sometimes it feels like it lasts forever. Thanks Mary 🙂

I love baby updates!! My littlest just turned one–TODAY! AAACK!! She just started cutting teeth at 9 months and we have two top, two bottom, and cutting another one up top. We are going through some sleep issues now. Normally asleep at 9, the last few nights have been 11pm or later. MOMMA IS EXHAUSTED. Especially with training for a half marathon = early mornings. Congrats on your milestones, momma! Breastfeeding FTW! We are working on words, but she really enjoys signing. Her favorite sign is “fan”. I have no idea why. Maybe because she thinks it’s fun? Thanks so much for linking up with #heymomma! I hope you stop by again next week!

One! Happy birthday to your special birthday girl! We normally can’t get him asleep til about 10:30/11pm so I know what you mean. I keep trying to make it earlier, but he fights it.

Congrats on your breastfeeding/pumping milestone!! Amazing! I had an awful sleeper; she didn’t sleep through the night until 13 months. Hopefully yours is better 🙂

Ouch, that’s a long time to wait for sleeping. Mine’s been on and off sleeping most of the night. But too many “off” for my liking.

This is really great. How fabulous will it be to look back and know you have a record of how your baby is growing? it’s also great to write your own milestones as well as babies!

Thanks 🙂 I figure we both had some milestones so it would be good to record it here, since I’m not doing any kind of physical baby book or journal.

You are doing a great job. As I told my daughter, it will get better. Sleep deprivation is all part of it. Enjoy every moment of your beautiful baby and hectic life because the time passes so quickly. Thanks for sharing your update with us at #anythinggoes link up.
