5 Signs Being a Stay-at-Home Mom is Right for You

November 1, 2025 by Julie Leave a Comment

For many women, having their first baby means they need to make a pretty big decision, the decision whether to be a stay-at-home mom or to get back to work as soon as they can.

It is rarely a decision for any mom and these days, there is a real pressure on lots of women to do it all and combine working with being a mom, and although being a career mom is great and has worked well for me, for many women, being a stay-at-home mom alone would be the most fulfilling option. So, how do you know which option would be best for you? Here are 5 signs that staying at home with your kid would be the best fit for you.

    • You’re totally in love with your little one
    • You’re happy at home
    • You don’t have tons of energy
    • Your finances are in good shape
    • You have a great support system

You’re totally in love with your little one

Okay, pretty much every mom is totally in love with their kids, but if you’re the kind of mom who literally does not want to leave them for a second, cannot stop staring at them and just wants to be there for every single second so you can see it all, then you might struggle with getting back to work and having to miss some of those smiles, giggles and milestones.

  1. You’re happy at home

If you are a really career-driven woman who is never more happy than when you are being productive in these office using your brain, making big deals and hustling, then you might find the slower pace of staying at home, taking care of the baby, and doing chores is harder than it sounds and it might not be the most fulfilling option for you but if you can think of nothing better than a (slightly) slower pace and focusing solely on your family, that’s a good sign that staying at home could be a good move for you.

  1. You don’t have tons of energy

If you are not one of those people who is always “on” front he moment you wake up to the minute you go to bed at night, and you get tired just working a regular day, then you might find it hard going to work all day every day and then coming home and having to take care of the baby and the house, so being a stay-at-home mom could be your best option. You can focus all of your limited energy on your baby.

  1. Your finances are in good shape

A lot of moms have to go back to work only because they can’t afford not to, so if your family finances are in good enough shape that you can maintain your lifestyle without you having to head back to the office, this is a really good sign.

  1. You have a great support system

Being a stay-a-home mom is not always easy. You can sometimes end up feeling isolated or bored because you have very little in the way of adult conversations throughout the day, so having a good support system who will help you when you are struggling or you can meet up with for same adult time, is vital and a good sign you can make it as a stay-at-home mom.

5 Signs Being a Stay-at-Home Mom is Right for You

Ultimately, you’ll never know if you’ve made the right decision until you go ahead and make the choice, but these signs are a good indicator of which way you might want to go. I hope everything works out for you, whatever you choose.
