How to Celebrate Game Day with Houston, from the comfort of your own home

Houston is hosting the biggest game of the year, and you know what that means – your snack plate will be filled with Tex-Mex and Jalapenos, and some BBQ sliders with a side of Dr. Pepper or Sweet Tea. Yay Texas!

Things to do in Houston

If you’re traveling to my town to watch the game or tailgate, here are some must-see local stops you should consider visiting if you have some extra time the weekend of the Big Game.

  • Discovery Green – a 12-acre park with tons of activities and things to see and do. Enjoy a lovely pond and views of our Downtown. Go ice skating.  Check out the Gateway Fountain and the playground. And walk by all the lovely art features.
  • Houston Museum of Natural Science – not too far from Downtown is this awesome museum where you can get your geek on and see the fun exhibits.
  • Space Center Houston – you can’t forget a fun trip to see some NASA finery! A bit of a drive if you’re staying near the Stadium for the game, though.
  • Downtown Aquarium – is a fun place to eat and explore!

Big Game Food Ideas

If you’re not traveling, that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate like a Houstonian! Plan some fun appetizers Houston-style and enjoy your big screen.

Make your own snack stadium for your guests to enjoy!

You have to see this football-shaped jalapeno cheese ball!

Gotta have some bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers, right? Right.

And if you’re watching your figure, try this skinny taco dip. Because we still need to have a taco dip Houston style.

Texas caviar? Yep, gotta have it.

Can’t forget your football shaped brownies! YUM!

Big Game Decoration Ideas

Mason jars are perfect for setting up your decorations or lay out your utensils.

I love this “penalty flags” idea for napkins!

Get your kids involved with these fun football-themed craft ideas.

This football tree craft is adorable.

You can also DIY a fun goal post with empty soda cans.

Here’s another cool football craft that’s tape resistant.

And this paper chain can be fun to make with kids.
