My First Time Using a Spiralizer, How Did I Do? #Brieftons

Posted October 5, 2015 by Julie in Food, Reviews / 3 Comments

I received the product in exchange for my honest review.

My Experience:
I was intimidated by this spiralizer because I had no idea how to use it. The lovely people at Brieftons provide a free recipe book, but I had to find some videos on how to use it to really get an idea of what to do. It just doesn’t come with instructions. I decided to go with an easy option, and picked a zucchini. I was wondering at first whether the zucchini needed to be cooked first, but the online consensus was you just use a regular fresh zucchini.

#Brieftons NextGen Spiralizer Review

Spiralizing a zucchini really took some effort, I wasn’t expecting to have to push and twist so hard. This isn’t necessarily a criticism of this particular product, just of spiralizing in general. I’m a total novice, so it took me by surprise. I spiralized most of the zucchini before I felt I had enough for the salad I was making and my arm was tired. I’m sure I will get better with more experience, but my spiralized final product did not come out like it looks in the photos. I ended up with more shorter strands while the photos show lovely long strands like spaghetti. I also wanted to add carrot to the salad, but as I started trying to spiralize it, it just wasn’t working, so I just grated it. Maybe I needed to use a different blade for a carrot, I don’t really know. I wish it came with more instructions and examples.

I did like the cap that held the zucchini for me to allow me to have more of it get spiralized than if it was holding onto it. I did find it easy to wash, especially with the cleaning tool provided. I like that it comes with 4 blades, though I didn’t try changing them out but it seems pretty easy with the clasps.

My Colorful Fall Salad Recipe:

  • 1 spiralized zucchini
  • 1 grated carrot
  • 1/2 can of corn

Need More Vegs For Better Health, But Don’t Want Anot
her Clunky Kitchen Device Taking Up Precious Kitchen Space? The NextGen Is Your Answer!

If you are looking for a handheld spiralizer, you may have noticed a common theme.

There are many ‘pencil-sharpener’ spiralizers, but they all suffer from the same fundamental issues.

PROBLEMS

* Too much veg wastage
* Not enough cutting options
* Hard to clean
* Too small for larger vegs

SOLUTION

The Patented NextGen addresses each issue elegantly.

Minimal Veg Wastage

Innovative cap design allows for a deeper reach and firmer grab on vegs with 50% less wastage.

Bigger Is Better

It accommodates vegs up to 6.5 CM in diameter, compared to 4 – 4.5 CM in competing products. It also features a longer blade (7 CM). This results in a longer cutting surface & shorter time to spiralize vegs.

Packed with much more power, it is still compact enough to store in a drawer when not in use.

4 Blade Sizes

Comes with a wider variety of blade options to help produce 4 patterns: 3, 5, 10 & 70mm widths.

Effortless Cleaning

Blades are removable for ease of cleaning and changing. No more risk of finger injuries.

RESULT

A next-generation spiralizer that is compact, highly functional and can achieve the same effects as some spiralizers many times its size and price.

  1. I love the idea of this. I have never tried a spiralizer but I am always tempted to buy one whenever I see it. I like that this one reduces veg waste, I didn’t even consider that as something that would be an issue with the pencil sharpener type.

    • We actually picked up a spiralizer at WM one time before I got accepted to review this one. I haven’t opened the other so I might use it as a gift.
