Why the “Take Time to be a Dad Today” billboards make me sad

Why the “Take Time to be a Dad Today” billboards make me sad

This particular billboard is displayed in my town, and it always gets my attention when I drive by. So I decided to blog my thoughts since that’s what bloggers do. Look, I think Fatherhood.gov is an important project and has some great family resources. There is a lot of great information and wonderful programs mentioned on that website. My complaint is specifically about the billboards, and about the “reminders” for fathers to be dads. The message and takeaway of these billboards convey that we have a serious problem with absentee dads. It saddens me that we live in a world […]

Why I’m no longer against cry it out

Why I’m no longer against cry it out

Before I had the baby, I was pretty sure I was anti-cry-it-out. I just couldn’t imagine sitting there listening to my little baby scream and cry and not be doing anything about it. But I realize now you really have to try everything to see what works for your family and situation. It took us a long time to start sleep training Baby H. I wanted to wait until he was old enough to start making patterns in his sleep, but then we hit a huge road bump with him needing to wear the DOC Band. That forced us to […]

Are you a Breastfeeding Bully? Stop the Bressure!

Are you a Breastfeeding Bully? Stop the Bressure!

Breastfeeding can be a beautiful, wonderful thing. But it isn’t for everyone, and that perfectly fine. Some women choose to breastfeed while others choose not to, and those are simply two ways to feed a baby. Unfortunately, there are people who make women feel guilty for the choices they make. Well I’m here to say let’s put an end to the bullying and stop the bressure. Some people might not even realize they are being breastfeeding bullies, so I have put together this little quiz to help identify what makes a bully. Are You a Breastfeeding Bully? Do you judge […]

Why you won’t see photos of my baby on this blog

Why you won’t see photos of my baby on this blog

The more I get into blogging, especially “mommy” blogging, the more I see something that terrifies me. Okay, maybe terrifies isn’t the right word, but this activity makes me very uncomfortable, to say the least. I’m talking about bloggers sharing large, detailed photographs of their children on their blogs.  Does anyone else see the dangers in this? Aren’t we warned against posting our vacation schedules on social media to avoid inviting criminals to break into our houses when they know we are away? Haven’t we been told that once something is posted online, it is there forever?   As a […]

Mommy Wars need to stop! Make a #Mommitment

Mommy Wars need to stop! Make a #Mommitment

I’m sure by now everyone’s seen The Mother ‘Hood Official Video by Similac. It really illustrates many different approaches to parenthood, and kind of opens our eyes (if we’ve been living under a rock hiding out in our houses and staying off the interwebz) to mommy wars. Examples of Mommy Wars: Breastfeeding vs. Formula feeding Stay At Home Mom vs. Working Mom Babywearing vs. Stroller-ing Cloth diapers vs. disposables Baby-lead-weaning vs. starting rice cereal Attachment parenting vs. Cry It Out Fit Mommy vs. still-carrying-the-baby-weight mommy the list just goes on! But can someone please (really, pretty please?) explain to me why oh why are so many […]

A Call for Compassion #1000Speak

A Call for Compassion #1000Speak

We hear too much about how horrible humans can be to each other. From social media shaming to the tragic murders all over the world, there are plenty of examples we can look at. Where is our humanity hiding? Where is our compassion? Compassion is sympathy. It is our concern for other people and their well-being. It is giving someone a hug when they have had a bad day. It is donating to a cause to help someone. It is standing up for someone when they are being bullied. It can even be adopting a stray animal (animals are people […]

Enough with the Squishy

Enough with the Squishy

I might be in the minority opinion on this, so we’ll see what this post turns into. I’m not very much into all the “feel good” stuff that women seem to be into. I don’t like chick flicks, I don’t watch Lifetime movies just to have a good cry, etc. I’m also not into speeches and presentations that are only meant to “empower” women to feel a certain way about themselves and their lives without any practical information. This is what I call “squishy”. It is the stuff that is meant to give you the warm and fuzzies and make […]
