8 Things I Hate About Winter, and 2 Things I Don’t

Posted January 5, 2016 by Julie in Memes / 23 Comments

It is definitely winter now, and I am not a fan. I mean, who wants to be freezing cold all the time? I prefer to be warm. I don’t even live where it snows! If I did, I would probably go crazy. So here’s a list of things I hate about winter.

Baby-its-cold-outside

  1. It is dark too much. I mean, sure the sun comes out during the day but I don’t see it. It is just starting to come up when I go to work, and it is setting when I drive home. Which brings me to…
  2. No evening walks for me anymore. I used to go walking with my neighbor after work, but now it is just too dark and dangerous.
  3. Did I mention that I’m solar-powered?
  4. Ice on my windshield and my car taking forever to warm up if I am forced to park in the driveway. This is why I normally park in the garage if we don’t have guests staying over and needing to park in the driveway (which would block me in) or the garage isn’t being used for a project.
  5. The cold makes my plantar fasciitis flare up. When my feet hurt I can’t walk around a grocery store or chase after my toddler. I mean, Iย can, but it hurts.
  6. Cold hands. I really don’t like when my fingers are numb. Does anyone like that feeling?
  7. Illness. Cold and Flu season is brutal on everyone.
  8. The Holidays, because let’s be real – holidays are stressful and expensive and some of us get a little bit Grinchy.

But let’s end this on a positive note and round out the 10 with a few good things about winter:

  1. It is no longer so hot that you melt into a tiny puddle of goo every time you walk outside. Yay Texas!
  2. The Holidays. Sure, it is a stressful and expensive time, but also a great time of year that we get to see family and of course… presents!

  1. I hate going to work and coming home in the dark too, it makes the days seem really long and tiring. On the plus side, when your not at work the cold is a great excuse for a duvet day! #TheList

  2. I’m in 2 minds about winter. I absolutely hate being cold with a passion, but I love snuggling up on the sofa with a blanket and a cup of tea…and obviously I can’t do that in the summer. I do hate how dark it is all the time though and de-icing the car is THE WORST #TheList

    • Or, if your hubby makes your house so cold in the summer that it might as well be winter, you can still have that cup of tea on the sofa ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks Sarah ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Dee

I feel you on the cold. It’s funny. I was telling The Boy a while back that I would rather do the heat than cold. He said I don’t even do that well as evidenced by our trip to Vietnam/Cambodia during the summer (super hot and humid!)
Also, cold hands suck. I notice they get cold at home when I’m using the mouse. I wonder if there’s a heated mouse I could use. Hmmm.

  4. You said a mouthful and I am with you so not a fan of winter and prefer the summer any day of the week simply because I love the warmer weather and hate being cold.

  5. I hate being cold, but I love snuggling with my littles.

I hate being iced in, but I love exploring an iced-over world with my kids.

I hate runny noses, but I love the excuse to drink more tea and eat more soup.

    Winter, you’re so complex! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. I don’t remember which part of Texas you are in, but it is COOOOOLD here in the Panhandle, complete with snow remaining from last week’s blizzard. I don’t like being cold, but I do enjoy fuzzy socks and snuggly blankets and cuddling with the family.

  7. Julie, this post made me smile because I just put up one about all the reasons I LOVE winter! I do understand that many people are adversely affected by the darker days, and I am not all that wild about being cold myself. But I have my reasons… ๐Ÿ˜‰ In any case, here’s hoping you have an unusually warm and sunny winter where you’re at…send all the cold and dark MY way!

  8. I was wondering about that image, it is fancy! I love it! I feel the same way you do about winter. I could totally deal with sweatshirt weather year round though. I don’t like the super hot but I hate the super cold. My brother just moved to North Carolina and he said he only wore his jacket once last year!

    • Aw thanks, just a little chalkboard background with effects and different fonts ๐Ÿ™‚
Yes sweatshirt season year round would be perfect.

  9. Yeah, I miss the sunshine during the winter, too. We’ve just started getting winter-esque weather this week, so it’s been an adjustment to remember to go out and start the car as part of the get-out-the-door routine.
